Community Schools at August Elementary

  • Hello August Elementary Families!

My name is Zenaida “Mona” Perez, and I am the Community Schools Partnership Specialist at August Elementary. I work alongside students, families, staff, and community partners to help connect our school community with resources, programs, and opportunities. I am here to listen, help families navigate available supports, encourage family involvement, and build partnerships that help our students succeed. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions, ideas, or if your family needs assistance. Together,we can build a stronger school community where every student and family feels supported, connected, and valued.

  • A Community School brings together students, families, school staff, and community partners to help every student succeed.

At August Elementary, we work to connect families with resources and opportunities that support the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Community Schools are built on strong partnerships and family voices. Together, we identify the needs of our school community and work toward solutions that help our students and families thrive.

  • At August Elementary, Community Schools helps connect students and families with resources, services, and opportunities that support their success. Families may receive support with community resources and referrals, basic needs, family engagement activities, workshops, school events, and connections to community partners.

We also create opportunities for families to share their voices, ideas, and needs. By working together, we can help every student and family feel supported, connected, and welcomed at August Elementary.

  • Families are an important part of our Community School! There are many ways to get involved at August Elementary, including attending Parent Café, PTO and ELAC meetings, participating in school events and workshops, volunteering, completing family surveys, and sharing your ideas and feedback.

Your voice matters! We encourage families to help us identify needs, celebrate our strengths, and make decisions that support our students and school community.

That last line is especially helpful because the page gives parents an actual next step, instead of only explaining Community Schools.
